1/2 c shortening
1 c sugar (I prefer brown but white works great as well)
1 egg
1 c applesauce
2 c flour
1 t baking soda
1/2 t cinnamon
1/2 t salt
1/2 t ground nutmeg
1/4 t ground cloves
Combine wet ingredients first, then add dry ingredients. Add oatmeal and walnuts as desired.
Bake in 350 oven for about 8 minutes
Yields about 3 dozen
